Syrian parliament abolishes Terrorism Court established under Bashar Assad
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – A member of Syria’s People’s Assembly on Wednesday said the country’s Terrorism Court and all legal effects stemming from its rulings were abolished following a vote by the assembly.
Mohammed Sido, a lawmaker representing Afrin region, northwestern Syria, wrote on Facebook, “The notorious Terrorism Court has been abolished after a vote by the People’s Assembly.”
The Terrorism Court was established in 2012 by a decree issued by former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to hear terrorism-related cases and prosecute those accused of such crimes.
People’s Assembly member Bishr al-Hawi told Syria TV that the Terrorism Court and all its legal effects have been abolished after deliberations during today’s session.
Al-Hawi, a lawmaker representing Aleppo Governorate, had previously called for the abolition of the Terrorism Court and the annulment of all legal effects and consequences resulting from its rulings and decisions since its establishment.
