Jordan foils drug smuggling attempt using guided balloons

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Jordanian army announced on Friday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotics into the country using guided balloons along the country’s eastern frontier.

In a statement, the Jordanian Armed Forces said the Eastern Military Region detected guided balloons carrying a large quantity of narcotics within its area of responsibility before dawn on Friday.

According to the statement, Border Guard units engaged the balloons and successfully brought them down along with their payload inside Jordanian territory.

The military said the operation was carried out in coordination with Jordan’s security agencies and the Anti-Narcotics Department. The seized materials were transferred to the relevant authorities to complete legal procedures.

The statement did not disclose the quantity or type of narcotics seized, nor did it identify those responsible for the attempted smuggling.

Jordan has repeatedly announced the interception of drug smuggling attempts along its borders, particularly on the frontier with Syria, where authorities have reported the use of various methods to transport narcotics into the kingdom.
