QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian government announced on Thursday that it had signed the final air transport agreement with Germany during a ceremony held at Tishreen Palace in Damascus, marking a step toward establishing direct air services between the two countries.
According to the Syrian state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV channel, Syria was represented at the signing ceremony by Sameh Arabi, Deputy Head of the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport. Germany was represented by Geza Andreas von Geyr, State Secretary at the German Federal Foreign Office.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said through its official platforms that the agreement “comes as the culmination of the achievements made under the Joint Declaration of Intent signed by the two countries in the German capital, Berlin, on March 30.”
The authority said the agreement establishes the legal and regulatory framework governing air relations between Syria and Germany and paves the way for the implementation phase.
According to the authority, the next stage includes completing operational procedures between the civil aviation authorities of both countries, designating air carriers, regulating air traffic rights and flight frequencies, issuing operating licenses and approvals, and fulfilling the technical and security requirements necessary to launch flights between Syria and Germany.
