UNHCR delegation discusses safe return with local groups in Sari Kani
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Hasakah, accompanied by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC), visited the city of Sari Kani (Ras al-Ain) on Sunday to discuss protection issues, humanitarian needs, and mechanisms to support the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of displaced people.
Sources who attended the meeting told North Press that the UNHCR and SARC delegation met with several civil society organizations in the city as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and coordination in support of humanitarian work in the area.
According to the sources, discussions focused on protection concerns, humanitarian needs, and ways to facilitate the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of internally displaced people while ensuring the protection of their rights and improving access to essential services.
The participants also discussed avenues for cooperation among the relevant parties to help provide a safe and stable environment for returnees.
The meeting emphasized the importance of maintaining coordination and partnership to enhance protection programs and respond to growing humanitarian needs, contributing to support for local communities and strengthening their resilience, the sources added.
Sari Kani, located in northern Hasakah governorate, has witnessed repeated waves of displacement since the Turkish military operation and the takeover of the city by Türkiye-backed armed factions in October 2019, leaving thousands of residents displaced across northeast Syria.
