Displaced Kurds demand safe return during protest in Syria’s Hasakah
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Displaced residents from the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeastern Syria, on Sunday staged a protest outside the Hasakah Governorate building, demanding a safe return to their hometown nearly seven years after being forced to flee.
The demonstrators carried banners reading, “We demand justice and a safe return,” and “How long will our right of return be postponed?”
During the protest, Hasakah Governor Nureddin Ahmad met with the demonstrators and said efforts are ongoing to facilitate the return of displaced people to their places of origin.
Ahmad said authorities are working intensively to enable the return of displaced residents from Sere Kaniye, adding that preparations are underway to create the conditions necessary for their safe return.
He also noted that people currently displaced within those areas have also expressed a desire to return to their own hometowns and villages, saying the necessary arrangements are being made to address those demands.
