Mass grave discovered in eastern Hama countryside

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Authorities in Hama governorate announced on Saturday the discovery of a mass grave in the eastern countryside of the governorate containing human remains and military clothing believed to date back to the period of the former Syrian government.

According to Syria’s state news agency (SANA), the Internal Security Command in Hama said the mass grave was found in the village of Kafraa in eastern Hama countryside.

The command said preliminary information indicates that the site dates back to the period of the former government.

It added that patrols from the Suran Area Police were dispatched to a farm on the outskirts of Kafraa after receiving information about the possible existence of a mass grave.

At the site, officers found unidentified human remains belonging to several individuals, according to the statement.

The Internal Security Command said security forces immediately secured the area after discovering human skulls and remnants of military clothing believed to have belonged to fighters who were active during that period.

The command added that the relevant authorities were notified and arrived at the scene to begin the required legal and forensic procedures, including recovering the remains, working to identify the victims, and continuing the investigation.
