One killed, several farmers injured in Suwayda landmine blast

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – One person was killed and several farmers were injured on Tuesday when a landmine left behind from the Syrian conflict exploded in the countryside of Suwayda governorate in southern Syria.

The incident occurred in an agricultural area west of the town of Rassas, according to Syria’s state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV.

The broadcaster reported that the victims were traveling in a vehicle when the landmine detonated, killing one person and injuring several others.

The explosion is the latest in a series of incidents caused by war remnants that continue to pose risks to civilians across Syria.

On June 9, a child was killed and three others were injured when a landmine exploded near the Tishrin Dam in the countryside of Manbij, eastern Aleppo governorate.

Landmines and unexploded ordnance remain scattered across many parts of Syria, from the country’s southern regions to its northern areas, causing recurring civilian casualties years after major military operations have ended.
