Voting begins for People’s Assembly elections in Syria’s Kurdish cities
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Voting began on Sunday morning for the election of members of Syria’s People’s Assembly in several electoral districts in the Kurdish cities in Hasakah and Aleppo governorates.
The voting process covers the Hasakah and Qamishli districts in Hasakah Governorate, in addition to the Kobani district in Aleppo Governorate, according to the Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections.
In Kobani, 12 candidates are competing for two seats allocated to the district, within an electoral body consisting of 100 members.
Meanwhile, 13 candidates are contesting three seats in Hasakah district, where the electoral body includes 150 members. In Qamishli district, seven candidates are competing for four seats, with 198 members eligible to vote.
In Derik (al-Malikiyah) district, however, the results were settled in advance after only two candidates registered for the two allocated seats, out of an electoral body of 100 members.
The Higher Election Committee stated that polling stations will remain open until 12:00 p.m. local time, with the possibility of a one-hour extension if the minimum participation threshold is not met. Ballot boxes will then close permanently regardless of turnout.
Vote counting is scheduled to begin immediately after polling ends, while preliminary results are expected to be announced shortly after the completion of the counting process.
