Five killed in separate incidents across Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Five people were killed on Saturday evening in separate violent incidents across the countryside of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria.

Local sources from the village of al-Kishmah in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside told North Press that tribal clashes erupted between cousins from the al-Uqaydat tribe following a family dispute, during which light and medium machine guns were used.

The sources said the fighting resulted in the deaths of two young men, Mohammad Hamad al-Kataf and Saher Ayesh al-Mohammad, before the clashes subsided following warnings issued by security forces in the area.

In the town of Tayyana, also in eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, residents discovered the body of an unidentified young man who had been shot in the head.

The victim’s hands were bound, and signs of torture were visible on the body. No group has claimed responsibility for the killing.

In a separate incident, unidentified gunmen raided the home of Hussein al-Sabbar in the village of al-Heri near the Syrian border late Saturday night. Al-Sabbar, who was previously affiliated with Iranian-backed militias, and his brother were both shot dead at the scene.
