Motorcycle blast kills one, injures three in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A booby-trapped motorcycle explosion killed one person and injured three others in the town of Abu Kamal in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, a source said on Tuesday.
A government security source told North Press that the motorcycle, which had been rigged to target a patrol of security forces of the Syrian transitional government, detonated after its rider collided with a small van at the entrance to the Tuwaybah neighborhood in Abu Kamal.
According to the source, the blast killed the motorcycle rider instantly, wounded three civilians who were near the scene, and caused material damage to the van.
The source added that security forces had received information hours before the explosion about the presence of a booby-trapped motorcycle and subsequently restricted the movement of security vehicles while attempting to track it.
However, the motorcycle detonated before authorities were able to identify the rider or neutralize the threat.
