Sean Parnell confirms 2 U.S. soldiers, interpreter killed in Palmyra
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Two United States Army soldiers and a civilian U.S. interpreter were killed on Saturday in Palmyra, central Syria, while three others were wounded.
Sean Parnell, Assistant to the Secretary of War for Public Affairs, said on X: “Today in Palmyra, Syria, two United States Army soldiers and one civilian U.S. interpreter were killed, and three were wounded. The attack occurred as the soldiers were conducting a key leader engagement.“
Parnell added that their mission was in support of on-going counter-ISIS / counter-terrorism operations in the region. The soldiers’ names, as well as identifying information about their units, are being withheld until 24 hours after the next of kin notification. This attack is currently under active investigation.
Earlier on Saturday, members of US forces and Syrian forces were injured when a joint US-Syrian patrol came under gunfire near the city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in central Syria, according to security sources.
