Israel declares humanitarian zone in Khan Yunis amid Gaza city offensive
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Israeli army announced on Saturday the establishment of a humanitarian zone in Khan Yunis, coinciding with the expansion of its ground operations in Gaza City as part of Operation “Gideon’s Chariots 2,” aimed at capturing positions held by Hamas.
Earlier, Avichay Adraee, Israeli army’s Arabic-language spokesperson, confirmed that forces are conducting operations to defeat Hamas inside Gaza City.
In a statement on X, Adraee explained that the humanitarian zone will include essential infrastructure such as field hospitals, water pipelines, and water desalination facilities, along with continuous supplies of food, tents, medicine, and medical materials.
He added that the provisions will be delivered in coordination with the Unit for Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories and international organizations.
“We declare the Al-Mawasi area in Khan Yunis a humanitarian zone where efforts will be made to enhance humanitarian services,” he said.
Adraee urged residents to move to the zone, saying, “Do not heed Hamas’s claims. Take the opportunity to relocate to the humanitarian zone early, joining the thousands who have already done so in recent days and weeks.”
The ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced nearly the entire population. International courts and human rights organizations have raised allegations of genocide and war crimes, which Israel strongly denies, according to Reuters.
