U.S. works to designate Muslim Brotherhood as terrorist organization
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Tuesday that Washington is working toward designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, noting that the process is still in preparation.
In an interview with an American radio station, Rubio said the United States is in the process of designating the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization. He described the move as long and complex, but emphasized that work is actively progressing.
Rubio explained that the Brotherhood has multiple branches, each of which must be assessed individually. He noted that they are constantly reviewing groups to classify them for what they truly are, adding that the process involves a thorough examination of each branch, supported by documented evidence, to ensure any decision can withstand judicial scrutiny.
The remarks come after Republican Senator Ted Cruz introduced a bill to Congress in July seeking to classify the Brotherhood as a terrorist organization, arguing that it supports affiliated militant groups such as Hamas.
