UK delegation repatriates child of ISIS-affiliated family from NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Foreign Relations Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced on Thursday that a British delegation had received a child from families affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) during an official visit to the region.
AANES officials welcomed the delegation, which included Niamh Connolly, Political Officer at the UK’s Office for Syrian Affairs, and Charlotte Dixon, British Deputy Consul General in Erbil.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening cooperation across political, security, and humanitarian fields, particularly joint efforts to combat ISIS and prevent its resurgence.
The statement noted that the British delegation reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to supporting stability in the region and commended the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for their pivotal role in fighting terrorism.
The UK has previously repatriated several children of ISIS-affiliated individuals—a move that has sparked debate over the challenges and risks of reintegration.
