Drone targets oil field in Iraq’s Kurdistan Region
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Counter-Terrorism Group in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq announced on Thursday that a drone targeted the Tawke oil field in the Zakho district.
The field, operated by the Norwegian energy company DNO, came under attack for the second time since the beginning of a wave of drone strikes earlier this week.
In a related development, the Counter-Terrorism Group said that a booby-trapped drone crashed near the village of Surija in Erbil Governorate. The incident caused no casualties or material damage.
On Wednesday, the agency had confirmed that two other oil fields in the Zakho area were also attacked by explosive-laden drones.
The U.S. State Department has condemned the recent drone attacks on oil infrastructure in the Kurdistan Region, calling them a threat to regional stability and energy security.
