SDF captures 11 members of ISIS cells in Hawl Camp
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Monday dthe capture of 11 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells in Hawl Camp in the countryside of Hasakah, Northeast Syria, as part of a security operation launched last week.
In a statement, the SDF said that on the fifth day of Operation Enduring Security, they had completed inspections in the “muhajirat” section of Hawl Camp, which houses foreign women.
The operation included a full count and identity verification of individuals in that area, along with an inspection of a section designated for Iraqi refugees.
The statement also pointed out that eight women associated with ISIS were questioned about an incident involving torture and the killing of a woman. The woman is suspected to have been killed at the hands of women affiliated with ISIS’ so-called “Hisba” (morality police) in the “muhajirat” section.
On Nov. 6, the Operations Room, which includes the SDF, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), announced a new security operation, backed by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, in Hawl Camp to dismantle ISIS cells.
