SDF captures 17 ISIS members in Hawl Camp

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday that they captured 17 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Hawl Camp, northeastern Syria, over the weekend during a security operation launched last week.

In a statement, the SDF detailed that its forces captured 10 individuals on Sunday, all of whom were “involved in terrorist activities” and the planning of attacks.

During a search of the “muhajirat” section of Hawl Camp, which houses foreign women, SDF forces discovered the decomposed body of a female camp resident who had been tortured and killed by women affiliated with ISIS’ so-called “Hisba” (morality police).

The forces collected a sample from the remains to identify the body and initiate investigations, the SDF stated.

Further inspection led to the discovery of two tunnels in the ISIS women’s section used for hiding weapons and sheltering young recruits, known as “Cubs of the Caliphate.”

The operation also uncovered materials used for preparing military gear.

The statement added that eight ISIS-affiliated women were interrogated for their involvement in recent acts of intimidation and torture within the camp.

On Nov. 6, the Operations Room, which includes the SDF, the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), announced a new security operation, backed by the U.S.-led Global Coalition, in Hawl Camp to dismantle ISIS cells.
