War remnant blast kills 2 children in Syria’s Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Two children were killed on Wednesday due to an explosion caused by an unexploded war remnant in the countryside of Daraa, southern Syria.
A local source told North Press that the victims, Mohsen Fawzi Khalaf and Ayman Sakher al-Awad, were killed by a landmine west of the town of Western Ghariyah in eastern Daraa.
The children were rushed to Daraa National Hospital after sustaining severe injuries in the explosion, but both passed away.
The children, originally from the town of Diban in Deir ez-Zor, had been residing with their families in Daraa for several years, working in agriculture.
Daraa, like many other areas in Syria, continues to suffer from the lingering presence of unexploded ordnance from years of warfare. These deadly remnants pose a constant threat to local residents, particularly children, who are often the most vulnerable to such hazards.
