Iran-backed militias evacuate posts in Deir ez-Zor amid alert state

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Iranian-backed militias in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria evacuate several of their posts as part of a heightened state of alert amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, North Press correspondent said on Wednesday.

A military source said Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other militias declared a state of emergency since Tuesday night, vacating over 12 posts in the towns of Abu Kamal, al-Mayadin, and the city of Deir ez-Zor out of concern for potential airstrikes.

In a significant escalation, Iran launched approximately 200 missiles targeting military bases and security facilities in Israel, citing the recent assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh and Hassan Nasrallah as the catalyst for their response.

The source added that the IRGC has instructed its militants to avoid military vehicles and armed displays, particularly at night. Moreover, the militia granted many local personnel temporary leave to minimize the risk of information leaks.

Additionally, the IRGC has deployed multiple rocket platforms across various towns in eastern Deir ez-Zor, notably in al-Mayadin, al-Quriyah, and al-Boleel.

These town are positioned opposite bases of the U.S.-led Global Coalition in areas controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

As these rocket platforms are being established, the area is experiencing a wave of displacement due to heightened Iranian military activity and fears of impending retaliatory strikes.
