MSF urges to protect medical facilities amid Turkish attacks on NE Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) urged on Monday to prioritize the safety of healthcare facilities after a medical center in the city of Kobani, northern Syria was hit by Turkish airstrikes.
MSF said on X platform, “MSF urges all parties in the conflict to ensure that health facilities- including hospitals, clinics, warehouses- medical staff and patients are protected.”
On Dec.25, several sites in the city of Kobani, northern Syria, and its countryside were targeted by Turkish warplanes and artillery, including a clinic affiliated with MFS.
The organization expressed concern over the recent attack on a clinic affiliated with MSF, stating that “MSF is aware of reports indicating that one of its medical facilities was targeted in Kobani.”
The organization pointed out that the “clinic used to be run by MSF but activities were handed over to the local health authorities since 2019.”
Since Dec. 23, Turkish forces have intensified strikes against many areas in northern and northeastern Syria. These attacks have targeted vital infrastructure facilities, such as oil and power installations, and caused civilian casualties.
On Monday, Turkey targeted several civilian infrastructure facilities in Northeast Syria including an industrial facility in the Allaya neighborhood near a prison that detains militants of the Islamic State (ISIS), Simav press printing house, a grain silos, a cement facility, a mill, a clothing factory, and the train station in the city of Qamishli. In addition, it bombed the village of Segerka and a cement factory in the village of Shork in the east of Qamishli.
