Leishmaniasis spreads in Syria’s Homs
HOMS, Syria (North Press) – Homs Governorate, central Syria, records 89 leishmaniasis cases in various areas, an exclusive source in Leishmaniasis Treatment Center in the village of Marmarita, West of Homs, told North Press on Wednesday.
Four centers for leishmaniasis treatment were constructed in Homs and its countryside, including al-Furqlus, Marmarita, al-Hamrat, and al-Mazraa, the source added.
Health institutions must stay up to date with the latest developments regarding leishmaniasis cases in the region, and take preventive measures to limit the spread of the disease, the source urged.
The plague is spreading in Homs countryside and necessary measures must take place, otherwise, the disease will spread in many other regions, the source pointed out.
People who develop clinical evidence of infection usually have fever, weight loss, enlargement (swelling) of the spleen and liver, and abnormal blood tests.
