Feminist organizations hold forum in Raqqa
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Feminist organizations in northern and eastern Syria held on Monday a forum in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria, at the regional and global levels to address anti-women policies and propose solutions.
The forum brought together 129 women representatives from institutions, parties, and committees in northeastern Syria. In addition, there were comments and interventions from women in the United Kingdom, Iran, and Afghanistan who participated via Zoom.
Adalat Omar, head of the Women Board, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said, “The forum is a response to the global extermination and violations against women perpetrated by patriarchal mindsets and authoritarian regimes.”
“We addressed several themes in the forum like women genocide globally and Yazidi women in the middle east.”
Ilham Mutli, the head of Syriac Women Union, added, “Our participation came as a step to support women in Sinjar [in Iraq] and Afghanistan, and to denounce violations against Yazidis and Armenians.”
Mutli also appealed the international community to put an end to violations against women and give them the right to determine their own destiny and provide protection for them.
The forum came up with a set of outcomes and recommendations including combating violence, exploitation, and discrimination against women, raising women’s awareness of the anti-women warfare in social media, and strengthening the concept of ‘Woman, Life and Freedom’.
