About 1,000 cancer patients need support in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – An official in Health Committee, affiliated with Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), said on Sunday, that about 1,000 people with cancer in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, are unable to afford treatment costs.
Khadija al-Sheikh, co-chair in the Health Committee, told North Press that 1,000,400 people in Deir ez-Zor suffer from air and soil pollution resulted from weapons used during years of war and the widespread of unattended primitive ways to extract and use oil derivatives.
Cancer cases, including blood, bone, stomach, kidney and lung cancer, have raised to reach about 1,000 cases, according to al-Sheikh.
Most of the patients cannot afford treatment costs, she pointed out.
The official called on humanitarian organizations operating in Deir ez-Zor to support the patients amid high fares and expensive medications and chemotherapy.
