Landmine blast kills child, injure two in eastern Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A child lost his life and two others were injured on Thursday in a mine explosion, likely left over by the Islamic State (ISIS), in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source from the town of Jadeed Bakkarah, 20 km east of Deir ez-Zor city, said, “A child lost his life and two others were injured when a landmine left behind by ISIS exploded near the Conoco [gas] field near the towns of Jadeed Ekedat and Khsham in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.”
The children hail from the Syrian government-controlled town of Khsham, and live with their families in mud homes near the Conoco field, the source added.
The source stated that the two injured children were taken to the al-Madina Hospital in the town of al-Maamel, “and they are in a critical condition.”
On Tuesday, a landmine exploded in the town of al-Meri’iyaeh in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, but no injuries were reported.
