ISIS claims responsibility for 2 attacks in Syria, one in Iraq
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – The Islamic State (ISIS) on Sunday claimed responsibility for two attacks against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Iraqi army.
The ISIS-run Amaq news agency said in a statement that the group’s militants targeted with machine guns a military vehicle of the SDF at the entrance of the village of al-Rabida in al-Hariji district in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The attack resulted in the injury of three SDF fighters, the agency added.
In another statement, the agency reported that the group’s militants detonated a sticky IED attached to a military vehicle of the Iraqi army in the al-Mualimin neighborhood in Baqubah region in Diyala Governorate, causing material damage and injury of two members of Iraqi forces inside the vehicle.
Since the beginning of this week, ISIS has claimed responsibility for three attacks in Iraq and two against the SDF in Syria.
ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.
Although the SDF launches intensive security operations, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses an increase in killing incidents carried out against SDF members, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal figures and civil residents.
After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.
