IDPs in Syria’s Kobani protest against SNA practices in Afrin
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, IDPs of Afrin region, northwest Syria, residing in the city of Kobani, organized along with a group of young men a protest, denouncing a crime committed by Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, known as Syrian National Army (SNA), in Afrin two days ago.
On March 20, Ahrar al-Sharqiya, a faction affiliated with the SNA, killed four Kurds and injured others in Jindires, the countryside of Afrin, while celebrating Newroz, a Kurdish national day.
The protesters raised photos of the four victims and slogans tagged with “No to Turkish occupation”, “No to demographic change”, “We want international protection for Afrin”, “No to mercenaries and terrorists”, “Freedom for Afrin”, and “Freedom for Jindires”.
The protesters called on the international community to quickly interfere to save the Kurdish people from extermination.
Ismail Sheikh Muhammad, one of those who participated in organizing the protest, told North Press that the purpose of the strike is to call on the international community to interfere to save the Kurdish people in Afrin.
Those who killed the Kurdish young men must be held accountable and Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction must be classified as a “terrorist group”, Muhammad added.
All “terrorist armed groups” must be expelled out of the region’s cities and original civilians must take control of the region, according to Muhammad.
