U.S. approves potential $5 billion weapons sale to Saudi Arabia
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The U.S. State Department on Friday approved a potential sale of Joint Direct Attack Munitions-Extend Range (JDAM-ER) to Saudi Arabia for an estimated $5 billion.
Boeing will be the principal contractor for the deal, the State Department said.
The department also approved a potential sale of AGT-1500 engines to Saudi Arabia for an estimated $750 million, with Honeywell serving as the principal contractor.
The Department added that this sale helps the U.S. achieve its foreign policy and national security goals “by improving the security of a Major non-NATO Ally that is a force for political stability and economic progress in the Gulf Region.”
The two potential sales are part of a series of U.S. arms deals involving Saudi Arabia announced this week.
