MP says Syrian government to recognize Rojava University degrees

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Syrian lawmaker for Hasakah Governorate Ahmad Murad on Saturday told North Press that the government will recognize all degrees issued by Rojava University, subject to their certification by the Ministry of Higher Education.

Murad said the ministry will review the degrees and verify academic records and student databases before completing the certification procedures.

Regarding the teaching of Kurdish in schools, Murad said allocating four classes per week is less than hoped for, noting that demands had called for a higher number of classes.

“Let us be objective. This is the first time in Syria’s history that the Kurdish language will officially be taught in schools,” he said.

Murad added that teaching Kurdish will not be limited to Afrin, Kobani and Hasakah, but will also cover other parts of Syria where there are significant Kurdish communities, including Damascus.
