SDF to hold ceremony for 9 fighters killed in helicopter crash in KRI

HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that an official farewell ceremony will be held next Wednesday, March 22, for the nine SDF fighters who died in a helicopter crash in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

On Friday, the SDF announced that nine fighters of its Counter-Terrorism Units (YAT) lost their lives following the crash of two helicopters on March 15 in the KRI. The fighters were traveling to Sulemaniyah within the framework a security and military exchange in order to boost YAT’s security and fighting abilities, according to a statement released by the SDF on March 17.

The SDF Media Center said in a statement, “The ceremony will take place according to special arrangements at 11 AM in the city of Hasakah.”

It added, “It will receive popular and official delegations from all regions of North and East Syria, in addition to the partners of our forces in the war against terrorism.”

The SDF called on the residents of North and East Syria to participate in the activities of the farewell ceremony, to honor “the blood shed to protect the region.”
