2,436 thefts recorded in Syria’s Aleppo following quake
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – An exclusive source from Aleppo police command told North Press on Monday that 2,436 thefts and robberies of houses and cars were recorded following the Feb. 6 earthquake.
The source said, under the condition of anonymity, that thefts of houses and cars have increased since the earthquake.
This took place after residents were forced to evacuate their houses, fearing that they may collapse, and robberies that were carried out by gangs, he added.
300 reports have been organized by the police for robberies and moral violation cases in shelters, forcing the police and the governorate to remove the shelters within worship places and keep only those in educational facilities, according to the source.
Most of the robberies were carried out by young individuals, who took advantage of emptied houses by their residents to carry out thefts, the source said.
