AANES beefs up security for Newroz festivals across NE Syria
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) issued a number of security measures set to be implemented before the Newroz festivities on March 21.
The AANES, based on the circular issued, has banned trucks and motorbikes from circulating between March 19 and 22.
The circular also stops the entry of people and goods into northeast Syria during the same period, as well as banning fireworks.
On Friday, the AANES, at its headquarters in the city of Raqqa, northern Syria, ignited the symbolic flame of Newroz and revealed, in a statement, the festival’s program across northern Syria.
The Kurdish celebration of Newroz represents the arrival of spring and a new year in Kurdish culture. The ignition of the flame on the evening on March 20 bears symbolic connotations for the Kurds in Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran, and other parts of the world.
