UN calls for political solution on 12th anniversary of Syrian war
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian issue needs a comprehensive political solution that restores Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen said on the twelfth anniversary of the Syrian Conflict on Wednesday.
The situation in Syria is untenable, unsustainable and indefensible, Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria (OSES) said, in a statement.
Syria needs a solution that enables the Syrian people to live in dignity and chart their own future, according to the statement.
“In the aftermath of the earthquakes, we have a collective humanitarian imperative to depoliticise relief efforts,” Pedersen said.
“We need access, via all modalities; we need generous resources; and we need sustained calm,” he added.
“Syria is devastated, divided, and impoverished, in an active state of conflict, its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity compromised,” according to the statement.
