US Senate Republican leader criticizes Biden’s foreign policy
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – US President Joe Biden’s attempts to under-fund US Armed Forces with inadequate budgets would reduce the US power, US Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said on Monday.
McConnell delivered remarks on the Senate floor regarding US foreign policy, saying, Biden’s “clumsy attempts to cut and run from the Middle East have reduced our presence” and it will allow key friendships “languish erodes our partnerships.”
US’ partners including Europe question its reliability and commitment, and want a “confident and engaged America to coordinate more closely with them and help them upgrade their own defenses,” McConnell added.
At crucial moments, President Biden has made decisions that have undermined confidence in the US, he remarked.
“It’s a recipe for less American influence, less national security, and a vacuum that Russia and China would be delighted to fill,” he added.
Although Iran is the world’s most active state sponsor of terror, President Biden took pressure off it.
Biden Administration needs to “get much more serious toward Iran,” he stressed.
McConnell said that the next time Iran’s proxies attack the US posts in Syria or Iraq, it must hit back harder.
In August 2022, Iranian-backed militias targeted a base of the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS in al-Omar Oil Field, east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, with several rockets.
Although “the President says he won’t allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon, … Iran inches closer and closer to a bomb, McConnell added.
“We need to closely coordinate with our Middle Eastern friends, not keep them in the dark,” according to McConnell.
The US should “help Israel acquire the capabilities it needs to put Iran’s nuclear program at credible risk,” he added.
The US “has strong friends” who want to continue to take its side over China’s and Russia’s and the US should stop making it difficult for them.
