UAE opens IDP camp for earthquake victims in Syria
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – According to the UAE News Agency, the Emirati Red Crescent opened a camp for victims of the February 6 earthquake in Syria.
The campsite includes 50 tents and accommodates 300. The news agency reports that it is “equipped with beds, blankets, solar lighting and food parcels.”
The opening was attended by Abdul Hakim al-Nuaimi, the UAE Chargé d’Affairs in Damascus, who said the UAE is planning to open more such campsites.
The UAE has so far been the most generous aid provider, sending around 1.700 tons of aid on 127 flights to Syrian government-controlled regions. Half of all aid planes sent to the country after the earthquake have come from the Emirates.
Despite this, many locals in Syrian government-controlled areas are complaining of missing aid provisions and a broken aid delivery system.
