Delegation of Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union arrives in Damascus
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union arrived in Damascus to confirm support to Syria and stand by its people in the plight caused by the Feb. 6 earthquake.
Hammouda Youssef Sabbagh, the Speaker of the People’s Council of Syria, alongside other officials received the Arab delegation at Damascus International Airport.
Head of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Speaker of Iraqi Parliament, Mohammed Al-Halbousi told Journalists at Damascus Airport that the Arab stance supports the return of Syria to its “Arab surroundings” and that Syria practices its role on all levels on the regional and international arenas.
A day earlier, the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, in the final statement in its 34th conference, announced the formation of a delegation to visit Syria to affirm its support to those affected by the earthquake.
The one-day 34th conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union kicked off in Baghdad with the participation of 18 Arab countries and observers represented by international organizations.
Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives, Hanafy Gebaly, said, “We are now here in Syria to support it and to show solidarity with it in confronting earthquake disaster.”
Gebaly stressed that Syria will return to its normal position in the Arab League.
