Syrian authorities in Hama to evacuate 18 at-risk houses
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The number of notified houses for evacuation due to the Feb. 6 earthquake in the city of Masyaf of Hama Governorate, central Syria, has reached 18 so far, Saeed al-Khatib, Head of Masyaf City Council, said on Friday.
He stated to pro-government Athr Press website that some families stayed with relatives while others are set to be put in shelters.
On Feb. 6, a devastating earthquake hit southern Turkey and northwestern Syria, killing about 50.000 and injuring many more, in addition to devastating thousands of buildings under which thousands were trapped.
Mahmoud Zanbu’a, Governor of Hama, stated to the pro-government al-Watan newspaper that around 7.150 houses, 256 schools, and 116 government facilities were damaged by the earthquake in Hama in a provisional count.
The number of people affected by the earthquake in Hama Governorate has reached 2.600. Some are staying in shelters or farms, while others are with relatives, according to Zanbu’a.
Al-Khatib noted that, so far, 1.247 applications were submitted to inspect damaged houses in Masyaf, in addition to 15 applications for private kindergartens and government facilities.
Until now, 370 houses are inspected because there is only one six-membered committee available.
