Earthquake damages 7.500 facilities in Syria’s Hama
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The earthquake that hit Syria on Feb. 6, damaged about 7.500 facilities in Hama Governorate in central Syria.
Mahmoud Zanbu’a, Governor of Hama, said on Wednesday that around 7.150 houses, 256 schools, and 116 government facilities were damaged by the earthquake.
Zanbu’a stated to the pro-government al-Watan newspaper that 13 concrete water tanks were damaged following the earthquake, according to preliminary reports by specialized engineering teams in Hama.
The number of people affected by the earthquake in Hama Governorate has reached 2.600. Some are staying in shelters or farms, while others with relatives, according to Zanbu’a.
The governor noted that about 500 houses across Hama have been evacuated so far.
Muhammad Abu Jad’an, Director of Planning and International Cooperation and Coordinator of the Emergency Response Room in Hama General Secretariat, stated to al-Watan newspaper that 11 shelters for affected people have been opened and have received more than 896 people.
