Sweden to hold conference for Syria, Turkey quake aid

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday Sweden announced it intends to hold an international conference on March 16 th to support people hit by the quake in south Turkey and north Syria.

Speaking to reporters before the meeting of EU foreign ministers, Swedish Foreign Minster Tobias Billstrom said the donor conference “is going to be held here in Brussels on March 16.”

“Our aim is to raise additional support for the people in Turkey and Syria and try to do as much as possible to alleviate the terrible consequences of this earthquake,” Billstrom noted.

Sweden’s top diplomat said his country spares no efforts to render help and assistance to Turkey and Syria via the sought international conference saying expectations are very high for regarding turnout.

Billstrol said they coordinate with the EU Commission to gain more support for both Syria and Turkey.

Recently relations between Sweden and Turkey went sour in the aftermath of veto by Turkey to admit Sweden and Finland to the NATO alliance being accusing by Turkey of harboring Kurdish activists.
