Pope calls for support to people hit by quake in Syria, Turkey
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Pope Francis appealed for help to people affected by the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.
The Pope, addressing thousands of people gathered in St. Peter’s Square in the Italian capital Rome, said, “I think especially of Syria and Turkey, of the many victims of the earthquake, but I also think of the daily dramas of the dear Ukrainian people.”
The pope expressed his sorrows over the plight of the people in New Zealand which is hit by Cyclone Gabrielle claiming lives as many more are still missing.
“With emotion I pray for them, and express my closeness to these peoples, to the families of the victims and to all those who are suffering from this devastating calamity,” he added.
On February 6, a double disaster hit south Turkey and north Syria claiming thousands of lives in both countries, many more have lost their homes and remain homeless in both countries.
