US To warn Turkey, UAE against evading its curbs over entities
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Top sanctions official of the US Department of the Treasury is to warn countries and businesses against doing businesses with entities subject to US sanctions.
Reuters reported that Brian Nelson, undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, intends to visit Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Turkey to reiterate that the US will continue to impose sanctions if they do business with entities subject to US sanctions.
“Individuals and institutions operating in permissive jurisdictions risk potentially losing access to G7 markets on account of doing business with sanctioned entities,” according to the department.
The US and its allies have imposed sanctions on Russia since its invasion of Ukraine, killing and wounding thousands of Ukrainians, and turning Ukrainian cities into rubble.
Turkey opposed Western sanctions on Russia and has close ties with both Moscow and Kyiv.
In December 2022, the US also imposed sanctions on a Turkish businessman, accusing him of acting as a facilitator for oil sales and money laundering on behalf of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.
In addition to imposing sanctions on the UAE-based companies due to evading Iran-related sanctions.
