DAMASCUS (North Press) – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) recorded a 100 deaths of cholera in Syria.
In a report released on Monday, OCHA said there were 77,561 suspected cases, including 100 attributed deaths from the period extending from August 25, 2022 up to January 7.
The report noted the fatality rate in Syria was 0.13%.
“While the reported number of suspected cases has significantly reduced in some areas, but the overall cumulative cases continue to increase,” the report read.
OCHA reported since December 18, 2022, some 15,890 new suspected cases.
According to the report, 1,886 samples tested positive.
In September 2022, Media Office of the Syrian Ministry of Health announced 15 cholera infection cases in Aleppo in the north of the country.
Early Warning Alert and Response Network in North and East Syria (EWARN) announced on September 26 the first confirmed cholera infection.
For its part, the Health Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) reported the first cases in Deir ez-Zor and Raqqa.
About 6561 suspected cases and seven deaths were reported in IDP camps in northeast and northwest Syria, according to OHCA’s report.
