Syria’s Manbij Health Committee warns of cholera outbreak

MANBIJ, Syrian (North Press) – On Sunday, Health Committee in the city of Manbij in northern Syria warned of cholera outbreak after daily infections were recorded.  

Early in September, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced the first ever cases of cholera in northeast Syria due to low levels of Euphrates River and drinking water contamination according to Health Board of the AANES.

Ayman Muhammad official of the health control in Health Committee of Manbij Civil Council, affiliated with the AANES, said 3-4 cholera infections are recorded on daily bases.

Mahmoud told North Press that the infections recorded in Manbij are “light ones” adding no fatalities were recorded up to date.  

16 cholera-related deaths have been reported in northeast Syria up to date, according to AANES’ Health Board.
