The US remains committed to defeat ISIS with the SDF

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – TheUS sent “sincerest condolences” to the families of the SDF fighters martyred during the ISIS attack on al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah city, northeast Syria.

This came in a press statement by the spokesman of the US Department of State, Ned Price, yesterday, where he thanked the SDF fighters for the sacrifices they made to repel ISIS attack.

On January 20, ISIS sleeper cells attacked al-Sina’a prison, where thousands of ISIS inmates are detained, whom the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested during the years of war to defeat ISIS.

The attack was launched in tandem with three explosions in an attempt to escape ISIS inmates from the prison.

“The United States commends the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) for their heroic and effective response to the sustained ISIS attack on the Hasakah detention center and the surrounding area,” Price said.

He added that ISIS desperate and violent tactics are a grave reminder to the world that “the terrorist group remains a threat that can and must be defeated”.

He pointed out that senior ISIS leaders were captured or killed during the attempt to free detained ISIS members from detention.

“This battle is a reminder that the enduring defeat of ISIS requires the support of the international community,” The US diplomat noted.

Ned Price called on the Global Coalition member states to improve the secure and humane detention of ISIS members, support rehabilitation initiatives, and “urgently repatriate their nationals and other detainees remaining in northeast Syria”.

“The US government will continue its stabilization and other programs in the region to support these efforts,” he stated.

The US State Department spokesman concluded that the US, through the Coalition, “remains committed to the enduring defeat of ISIS, working by, with, and through our local partners”.
