Iraqi airstrike targets ISIS gathering as ground operations continue
ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – Iraqi Air Forces launched an airstrike against an Islamic State Organization (ISIS) gathering north of Saladin governorate in the center of Iraq killing four.
F16 jets of the Iraqi air forces launched airstrikes against a group of four ISIS militants eastern Makhoul mount, killing all of them, Iraq’s top military spokesperson, Yehia Rasool, said in a statement, on Monday.
The airstrikes came two days after another operation was launched on Sunday south of Hatra city in Iraq killing two ISIS suicide bombers and a third who accompanied them in their car.
“ISIS gangs will get to pay the price for the martyrs’ blood,” Rasool threatened ISIS sleeper cells.
Earlier, a joint operation to pursue radical ISIS sleeper cells south of Mosul was launched with the participation of army, police and Popular Mobilization Forces.
The operation aims to clear the Hatra desert which links three Nineveh, Saladin and al-Anbar governorates of ISIS cells.
The joint Iraqi operation command announced on Sunday the launch of a large-scale security operation against ISIS, included Diyala and Saladin governorates.
This operation came in response to the ISIS attacks on Iraqi soldiers in al-Azim region three days ago, which killed 10 soldiers and a colonel.
