Reciprocal bombardment continues in Syria’s northwest
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday evening, the reciprocal bombardment between the government forces and the Turkish-backed armed factions in Idlib and Hama countryside in northwest Syria, continued.
“The government forces, stationed in the city of Kafranbel and the town of Basqala, south of Idlib, bombed the towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhun, Kansafra and the outskirts of al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with rockets and heavy artillery shells,” sources of the Syrian Civil Defense (White Helmets) told North Press.
“The villages of Benin, Harsh Benin, al-Ruweiha, and the outskirts of Shnan in the eastern part of Zawiya Mountain were also hit by more than 15 shells,” the sources added.
In Hama, the government forces, stationed in Jurin Camp, bombed the town of al-Ziyara, the villages of al-Mansoura and Sheikh Sindiyan in the Gab Plain, with the heavy artillery shells, according to the same sources.
“The shelling caused material damage, where many houses were destroyed and dozens were damaged. However, no casualties were reported,” the sources noted.
In the meantime, the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, which includes several factions, targeted the positions of the government forces in the town of Ain Selimo in the Gab Plain, with rockets and heavy artillery shells, a military source of the opposition factions told North Press.
The opposition factions also shelled the government forces’ posts in the town of Kafruma in the countryside of Mara’at al-Numan, south of Idlib, and other military points in Jabal Abu Ali, North of Latakia.
The de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020; however, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
