Syria’s Ministry of Health begins new vaccination campaign against coronavirus
DAMASUCS, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, the Syrian Ministry of Health launched a national vaccination campaign against coronavirus in conjunction with the start of the academic year.
On August 16, Syria’s government team concerned with confronting coronavirus announced the start of vaccination of teaching staff in the Ministries of Education and Higher Education, and also medical students from the fourth to sixth year.
The academic year has begun in Syrian government-held areas amid talks of a new peak of coronavirus.
On Saturday, the media office of the Ministry of Health of the Syrian government announced the registration of 120 new coronavirus infections and four deaths in its areas.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Education published on its official Facebook page a video of the Minister of Education Darem Tabbaa, in which he called on teaching staff to get vaccinated. He also called on students to follow the precautionary measures against the virus.
Tabbaa stated in an interview with the pro-government al-Watan newspaper today that a new protocol was adopted this year in line with the developments of coronavirus epidemic. The protocol began with the vaccination of educational staff, as the vaccine became available to all teachers.
He also claimed that vaccinating students is “not necessary.”
The Ministry of Health said that the campaign targets people above the age of 18 in various Syrian provinces until September 16th.
Those who are willing to get the vaccine can register on a virtual platform on the official website of the Ministry, then to head to any health center or mobile team present at fixed points allocated for the campaign.
