Pro-Iranian factions continue to bombard Syria Daraa
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On the night of Saturday-Sunday, pro-Iranian factions targeted the besieged neighborhoods in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria, in a bombing described as the heaviest since the siege began, which entered its 77th day.
Local sources told North Press that pro-Iranian factions targeted residential neighborhoods with improvised missiles, rockets, and heavy artillery, which resulted in the destruction of a number of houses.
There was no accurate information regarding the extent of the destruction caused by the bombing that targeted the neighborhoods of Daraa al-Balad, Tariq al-Sad, and the camps, given the intensity of the destruction.
The sources added that more than 65 improvised and Golan surface-to-surface missiles fell on residential neighborhoods in light of the lack of any way to evacuate or medically treat the wounded.
A notable from Daraa governorate who preferred not to be named told North Press that the government forces are imposing “impossible conditions.”
He added that government forces demanded the deportation of members of the Central Committee in Daraa al-Balad, including committee spokesman Adnan al-Masalma and committee member Abdel Nasser al-Mahamid Abu Sharif, who rejected this request at the insistence of notables from the province.
The notable pointed out that the security committee of the government forces demanded the surrender of all weapons in Daraa al-Balad and the besieged neighborhoods, which the residents reject.
He added that dignitaries in Daraa province were subjected to an assassination attempt when pro-Iranian factions targeted them with .23 caliber anti-aircraft guns after they left a meeting with the security committee of the government forces, which met with residents in Daraa al-Balad.
“The bombing started several minutes after we left the meeting, which means that the government forces do not want to reach a peaceful solution due to the pressure of pro-Iranian factions,” he said.
On Saturday, Daraa’s tribes appealed in a statement to Jordanian King Abdullah II bin al-Hussein to intervene to protect them from the Iranian factions and government forces.
