Government deadline to expire in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Damascus government forces provided notables of Daraa governorate, south Syria, with a Tuesday deadline to implement their conditions.

The government deadline was issued on Monday meeting in the city center of Daraa with the attendance of Russian officials.

Meanwhile, government forces pointed out that in the event that their conditions are not implemented, military operations will resume.  

Among the government conditions is to control all local neighborhoods in addition to a new settlement.

On Monday, armed individuals attacked several government military checkpoints in both the western and eastern countryside of Daraa.

These attacks were carried out in response to the siege imposed on Daraa al-Balad, Tariq al-Sad, and the camps by pro-Iranian factions in addition to their recent attack they have launched to break into the neighborhoods, local sources in Daraa told North Press.

The attacks targeted Air Force Intelligence government checkpoints between the towns of al-Musayfirah and Umm Walad and the military checkpoint on the Highway on the outskirts of the town of Khirbet Ghazaleh in the eastern countryside of Daraa, the sources added.

Additionally, the Air Force Intelligence checkpoint in the city of Da’el, the military checkpoint in the town of Al-Shaykh Sa’ad, the checkpoint in the village of Eldili, and a checkpoint in the town of Saham al-Jawlan in the western countryside of Daraa were targeted, according to the same sources.

Meanwhile, Damascus government forces targeted the outskirts of the town of Khirbet Ghazaleh with three artillery shells and also targeted, from al-Hamra Brigade east of the city, the  city of Nawa, the sources told North Press.

“Because negotiations were completely halted, military action resumed in Daraa on Sunday,” the Secretary of Daraa’s branch of the Ba’ath Party, Hussein al-Rifai, told Pro-government told the pro-government ATHR Press.

“This operation will not last for more than two days, but if the armed groups resort to the peaceful solution, then the Syrian army will be ready for a ceasefire,” al-Rifai said.

Regarding the areas where the military operations will be carried out, al-Rifai stressed that they will be carried out in Daraa al-Balad and throughout the governorate.
