SDF arrests ISIS militants in Syria’s east Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) arrested wanted individuals on the charge of belonging to the Islamic State (ISIS) in two different operations in the towns of al-Baghouz and al-Jazara in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A patrol of special forces affiliated with SDF, with the support of the Global Coalition, arrested four suspected individuals on charges of belonging to ISIS during a security campaign in al-Dawwod neighborhood in the center of the city, a military source of SDF in the town of al-Baghouz, 130 kilometers east of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press.
Interrmittent clashes took place between the patrol and the wanted reporting no wounded, the source pointed out.
Individual weapons and documents were found in the wanted individuals’ possession, according to the source.
In al-Jazara town, 70 km west of Deir ez-Zor, SDF, with the participation of the Internal Security Forces (Asayish), arrested three wanted on the charge of belonging to ISIS.
An SDF-Asayish joint patrol cordoned the town in order to arrest three suspecious of belonging to ISIS in a camp on the outskirts of the town, a military source of SDF in the town said.
The sources indicated that the arrestees are from areas west of the Syrian government-held Euphrates.
Pistols, ammunition, and some documents proving their involvement with ISIS were in their possession.
On Thursday, the SDF arrested a militant of an ISIS sleeper cell that attacked al-Souq checkpoint in the town of al-Shuhail, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, after engaging in clashes with them.
More than seven armed individuals open fire on al-Souq checkpoint in the center of the town, waging clashes that lasted for two hours, a military source in the town told North Press.
After the clashes calmed down, SDF cordoned the town to pursue the group and they managed to arrest one militant, who hails from the same town, the source added.
On August 24, SDF arrested security members belonging to ISIS in the town of Thiban, 50 km east of Deir ez-Zor.
On August 20, Asayish, with the support of the Global Coalition, arrested two ISIS leaders in the western countryside of Hasakah.
