Second attack on Coalition base in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor in a week
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, two rockets, whose source was unknown, fell near al-Omar oil field in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, which includes a site of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and a base for the US-Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
“Two rockets of unknown origin fell on the western side of the al-Omar field in Deir ez-Zor, which our forces take as advanced bases to pursue ISIS sleeper cells,” said Farhad Shami, the SDF Media Center director.
“No casualties were recorded among the SDF fighters,” Shami added.
On June 28, the al-Omar base was hit by mortar shells.
“US Forces in Syria were attacked by multiple rockets,” OIR spokesman, Col. Wayne Marotto tweeted at the time.
A statement by the SDF Media Center at the time, described the attacks as “dangerous missile attacks.”
On the next day, the SDF conducted preventive operations in the areas surrounding the military sites that were hit by rockets in order to “prevent any actions that ISIS may carry out.”
